GROWTH OF
CORPORATE SECTOR DURING APRIL,2005
During the month of April, 2005, 4083 companies were registered in India under the Companies Act, 1956 as against 3183 companies registered during the corresponding month of the previous year and 4703 companies during the previous month. Of the 4083 companies registered during the month, 4065 companies were limited by shares.This includes one government private limited company viz.Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation Limited. The monthwise registration of new companies during 2003-04 and 2005-06 is charted below:

3. The highest number of companies, limited by shares, registered during the month was reported from the Union Territory of Delhi (1058) followed by the State of Maharashtra (742). The States of Tamil Nadu (391), Andhra Pradesh (286),West Bengal(274), Karnataka (222) & U.P. (211) also reported comparatively larger number of companies registered during the month. These 7 States together accounted for nearly 78% of the total number of companies registered during the month.

The analysis of new registration of companies limited by shares by broad Industrial Classification during the month brings out that the highest number of companies were registered under the Industrial Classification "Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Business Services" (1307) followed by "Manufacturing"(1085) and "Wholesale and Retail trade, Restaurants & Hotels" (692). Other industrial Classification along with number of companies registered are Construction (562), Community,Social and Personal Services (165), Transport, Storage and Communication (141), Agriculture &Allied Activities (68) and Mining & Quarrying (45.)
5. During the month of April, 2005,
361(Three hundred sixty one )
Non-Government Companies (each with authorised capital of Rs.50 lakh or above),
were registered as against 408 in
the previous month and 254 in the corresponding month of the previous year
i.e.April, 2004.

46 companies limited by shares have reportedly ceased functioning during
April, 2005 either by going into liquidation or their names having been struck
off under section 560 of the Companies Act. The number of companies liquidated /
struck off in the previous month
was 25 . Out of 46 such companies, 15 were public limited and 31 were private
limited companies. Out of these 46 companies ,35 belonged to Punjab, 4 each to Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, 2 to
Tamil Nadu and 1 to West Bengal. Broad Industrial
Classification wise, out of these 46 companies limited by shares , 24 belonged
to Manufacturing sector , 13 belonged to Finance,Insurance,Real Estate &
Business services, 4 each belonged
to Wholesale & Retail Trade and Restaurants & Hotels and Agriculture & Allied activites , and
1 belonged to Transport,Storage & Communication. Taking into
consideration information relating
to registration, liquidation / striking off etc. of companies, the number of
companies at work on 30.04.2005 is indicated below:
